HIDE & SEEK

Yesterday was just a barrel of fun!! Yea, ok!! It started off by getting an attitude from Z (he's 5 1/2). He decided to pull the kitchen chair up to the sink to wash his breakfast bowl and when asked to put it back by the table I got "Why do I always have to do everything for everybody else? Why can't people do their own things instead of having me do it for them?"

To which I replied "You pulled the chair away from the table to wash your cereal bowl, therefore, you put the chair back."

Him: "If I don't, does that mean I don't get any dinner?" (that has become a big thing in our house lately and I think it's used as a threat over at my ex's)

Me: "Of course you get dinner. You always get dinner. Now put the chair back and finish getting ready to leave."

He gets his hat, gloves, coat and backpack on. But he's missing on thing.

Me: "Where are your glasses?"

Him: "I think they're downstairs."

Me: "Go get them."

As I finish getting my things together and making sure G is ready to go I realize that it's 7:45am and he's supposed to already be in school.

I go downstairs to wake up my best friend so she can get her son to school and see that Z still doesn't have his glasses.

Me: "Where are your glasses?"

Him: "I don't know. They're not where I left them."

Me: "Find them. We have to go. You're late."

As he's slowly walking through my best friend's house looking for his glasses, I start to look around her kitchen and living room. No glasses anywhere. I continue to grow more and more pissed off because now it's 8am and he's 15min late and G is supposed to be at school at this time. Him and I continue a back and forth of where are you're glasses and I don't know. It gets to the point that I ended up putting him in the corner so he can think about where they are because he was making this seem like a fun game to play, especially since he wasn't going to school until they were found. It had become quite apparent that he had hide his glasses on purpose because he has a really good memory and nothing like this has ever happened before.

By 8:30am there were still no glasses, Z's crying in the corner and my boyfriend walks in from work. He looks rather confused since he knows that Z & G are supposed to be in school and I'm supposed to be at work already. I explain the entire situation to him and he starts to ask Z where they are and helps him look. About another 15min of that and the boyfriend is getting upset with Z. I end up calling into work, G misses school completely (she's only in from 8am-11:30am so there was really no point) and Z doesn't get to school until about 9:30am, still with no glasses. Actually, he had glasses on, but they were his old ones that were guaranteed to give him a headache just from using them for a few hours.

I go back home and run a couple of errands with my best friend. Once we get back home, we clean her house from top to bottom and find no glasses what so ever. No where!!! We dug through garbage, dresser drawers, heat vents, toy boxes and toys, clothes, jackets, backpacks, every where and have no clue as to where Z hide his glasses.

We go to pickup Z at 2:30pm and I ask him if he remembers where he put them. "No!!" He ends up spending about another hour or so in the corner playing this "game". I finally get fed up and start looking all over again, this time including my house. I end up finding them crammed between the wall and his bed with his blankets nicely packed over them.

Now you're probably wondering why we didn't look in his room to begin with. I worked the night before until 7pm. My best friend was watching my kids downstairs until I got home. She never saw or heard him go upstairs or ever realized he had taken off his glasses. When we asked her kids about it, they said he took them off and put his glasses in their room. So, it never occurred to us to look in Z's room since he wasn't up there until bedtime and by then, they were already off and I had assumed they were downstairs since that's where he was last.

I don't' know why he did what he did and he won't tell us either, but I will tell you one thing. Yesterday was the most crazy day in awhile. I can't believe that my 5yr old would think that it was ok to hide his glasses and be able to get away with it without anyone noticing he wasn't wearing any. I'll probably never know why, but the new rule in our house is that those glasses don't come off and if they do, they better go on the kitchen table because I really don't want to repeat this day all over again.
